Episode 12 - Trump's fraud victims and what we can learn from them + live from the DNC!
What was the real story behind the predatory Trump University, and how does that tell us everything we need to know about Donald Trump? Plus more Decoding Project 2025. Plus the DNC!
This week, I had the amazing chance to speak at the Democratic National Convention on Thursday night, regarding the Trump University scam, its victims, what this tells us about Donald Trump, and how, oh, I don’t know, maybe we’d be better off having a president who’s fought consumer fraud rather than perpetrated it?
But the topic deserves a much more thorough discussion. And that’s where the most recent episode of the podcast comes in. What really happened at Trump University? How did Trump con his most loyal superfans? And what does it tell us about MAGA?
Plus we have the latest installment of Decoding Project 2025, examining Donald Trump’s proposals for attacking America’s farmers, making us less healthy, and taking a wrecking ball to America’s public education system.
Decoding Project 2025 then returns here to the Substack this week — along with a lot more exclusive written content every week as we kick off September.
And finally, a quick note on the DNC. The excitement came across on the TV broadcasts — and it was even more real at the United Center in Chicago. There was a positive, crackling buzz around the entire event and the Harris/Walz ticket, and even the other commentators and activists I know who are chronically pessimistic are expressing hope and cautious optimism. And generally speaking, throughout the history of American presidential campaigns, the party that exudes the greater energy and optimism generally wins. Fingers crossed and much more soon.
As I watched the DNC, I could not stop smiling. It was the most entertaining convention I’ve ever witnessed, and I’ve been watching conventions for many years. The delegates seemed to be having so much fun, others have seemed more like long business meetings.
