Regarding tariffs….everyone look into the Moot-Hawley Act? Finally on its third year of tariffs, Roosevelt ended it. But it took the next 7 years of Depression, now they call it Recession, to get back to the normalcy. To know also, the wide world also suffered the depression….and it helped Hitler’s cause to have followers towards war. That’s quite simplistic, I know, and learn tariffs only destroy us. Don’t the oligarchs realize they need the majority of people to also survive?

Something I don't understand why the billionaires want us to be poor? How can they make money when they privatize every government function if most of the population is out of work?

If you also look up “The Gilted Age, 1960-1900, robber barons about 2%, aka Oligarchs, owned a third of the wealth. When children worked in mills, 12 hour days/6 days work for adults, hardly living wages….the bottom 40% had NO wealth at all. During that time, with cheap immigrant labor, the US became a dominate economic industrial country on the backs of half the country. The majority of people finally rebelled to start Unions, 8-hour workdays, till after WW11, building the middle class….you and me. I just so fear for our children forward to suffer back into the time. As to why they can do it today, is because of silence from enough people who believed it would not happen, again.

I read somewhere that the Congress needs to be documenting the illegal acts and Constitutional violations in letters to the DoJ, so that there is some basis for investigations, court cases, subpoenas, protests, etc.

How do we make that happen?

I think Bernie Sanders is showing the way in the most effective way possible. All power to him - people are turning out in droves in overwhelmingly “red” areas. He is meeting future voters where they are. I think more Democrats should follow his example and blanket the country in actual appearances - not just statements from Capitol Hill.

Hello, OVanna11, I agree with you about Bernie Sanders' approach of going to small towns in red counties in any red or blue state. Even the blue states have pockets of farmers and rural areas. Once the set aside payments aren't made, the ASCS offices close, and already purchased grains by the government are not shipped overseas and left to spoil in government silos, cash crop prices will drop and futures commodities prices at the Chicago Board of Trade will drop. Then, farmers and all agricultural counties will be hurting financially. Couple that with all these civil service employees fired, and VA workers fired and benefits cut, and red states will be hurting.

Yes, so true. And, after today’s pitiful capitulation of enough D senators to pass that CR, I’m even more appalled at the so called leadership. They need to get out among people more to get a better guage on the mood out here. They seem completely detached from reality.

I agree completely about dealing with Trump's chaos and keeping the main issue in view. I have argued for about a year that the real Republican ticket was "Putin-Trump". Now Commerce Secretary Lutnick is saying that Greenland is necessary to US national security in the Arctic. So next they will point to Canada's vast land in the Arctic. The only other big Arctic country is Russia (Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland are Putin's direct targets there, too). Putin has said he wants Russian territory back in North America (That puts US and Canadian territory from Alaska down to around San Francisco on the table.) Imagine the future possibilities for the "Fart of the Deal"! Meanwhile, a new group of hens should be laying eggs by November 2026. I remember 99¢ a dozen eggs the last time we had one of these bird flu panics. Voters will have cheap eggs and think DT worked a miracle (if his chaos has not caused a Depression that has cost them jobs, house, savings, etc.)..

Tristan, you're right. " It's the billionaires, stupid! " It's the economy, stupid! While Trump talks about tariffs, especially against our allies and closest neighbors and trading partners, he's tanking the stock market and causing inflation on groceries, gasoline, and all everyday goods. While Trump talks about invading Panama militarily, getting Greenland no matter how, and making Canada the 51st state, unemployment is going up, job creation is slowing, the economy is contracting, and we are headed for a Trump/Musk recession. The price of eggs has tripled since the election. It's the economy, stupid! Trump promised if he was elected he would tank the stock market and crash the economy. He's doing just that. MAGAs said he's not serious, you have to know when he's kidding. It's obvious. Trump hates America because he thought he was beloved as a reality T.V. star. But being President is a real job that takes time, commitment, doing your best, and love of our country and it's citizens.

I think I heard that. I was pointing at Putin’s playbook. It seems exactly like how Putin organized Russia.
