Based on the article headline I can’t make myself read the article. Not yet. I simply cannot take it anymore. Not today. Why doesn’t the government just go ahead and crown him?

I have to thank Mr. Snell for hitting on this outright. Few if any have done so, yet. The anticipation of "what might be" is not relevant, or should not be relevant, to the prosecution of a crime. And in this case, multiple crimes.
It's at least a little bit Merchan's problem, because he didn't stick with the first date for sentencing, and had that phrase "and possible future president" in one of his rulings, so he hasn't really been blind justice.
Based on Alvin Bragg using Murder 1 and Terrorism charges against Luigi Mangione (who let a bystander run away with coffee in hand after allegedly shooting the UHC CEO) and him dropping the ball on sentencing of Trump, I have to think he's just another climber who is looking more for the fame and power of his position rather than the importance of using his role to do the right thing.
He should but he won't. Just as Mitch McConnell will always reserve power to himself and his party above all else including the constitution in the supposedly genteel Senate, Joe Biden will be a gentleman and Boy Scout until the end. It's annoying, innit?
I agree with just about everything you're written about this sordid chapter in American history and jurisprudence. I just have one question, and it pains me to ask it, but I do try to be fair at all times:
How many people who have been convicted of similar crimes in New York have gone to prison?
Yes, he is guilty of everything you've laid out, and much, much more, but I want to just focus on these 34 counts.
Like everyone else commenting here, nothing would make me happier than to see him locked up, but it has to be the correct punishment -- and if no one else in a similar situation has gone to prison, there's a legitimate question to be asked as to whether it would be proper in this case.
I wonder about those questions, too. I mean, he HAS to receive more than a stern talking to and a felony conviction on his record. It's just not enough, Dammit!
Probation would be great, and/or community service, but I suppose those are impractical because: Secret Service Protection. But a fine, at least, since nothing else seems to be practicable?

Agreed. I retired in April 2023, and was so looking forward to reading and watching all Trump's convictions unfold, including prison sentences, with jurisdictions arguing over who got to keep him for how long and in what order. My wife said I was wasting my golden years waiting for "revenge" or karma, and got nothing. She was right. The legal system and the journalists let us down, to say nothing of the oligarchs. I give up. May the MAGA cult choke on everything Trump, from now for the rest of their lives. I'll fight back in my own ways, quietly, while enjoying my retirement. Good luck, everyone.
He lied to the appellate court on his bail or amount owed in order to appeal and stated he couldn’t get the full amount and needed more time for at least the NY fraud case. Possibly the EJC case too.
His arguments are like a soap opera. In his petition for writ of cert his attorneys basically stated an insurrection would occur if they didn’t ditch the disqualification case in CO for insurrection.
I’d like someone to explain to me how Roberts interpreted Fed 70 as giving the Executive criminal immunity for the required energy to UPHOLD the laws. I just don’t understand it.
Merchan is itching to sentence him for an hour but can’t. He’s taking a chance and as little as it may be he’s been threatened but still willing and Trump lives for this retribution campaign.
