Why don’t felonies bother Republicans even when it comes to gun ownership?

Your Q&A are awesome and have taken my panic down a notch. I completely agree we need to rebuild from the ground up as Hitler-A-Lago destroys them over 4+ years. I'm a huge fan of Howe's THE FOURTH TURNING IS HERE and we do indeed need to redo democratic structures to prevent another horror from taking over our Constitution.

I began teaching from GENERATIONS in my AP US history classes & I remember my teen Millenials, “ Remember, you’ve got to save the world in the 2020s!” Doubt any remember my earning but I am a firm believer!!

Interesting that you mention The Fourth Turning as I have been thinking about it too. If the prediction is correct, we have seven or eight years of hell left before things get better. What do you think about that?

Thank you for this forum. Trump operates from fear, and this forum reinforces the opposite of fear.

We can survive this if we stick together. I would ask are we so sure we wanna push someone like vice president Harris to the side. She’s got a lot of talent as well as those people previously mentioned.

Most do not know we are in the middle of a scripted playbook leading to dictatorship.

Appreciated this column. Except for the last part which said we have a lot of time until 2028 to figure out Democratic Party leaders. I'm on record as saying the 2028 election will be a rubber stamp, if there even is one, as we will no longer have a Republic/democracy. And, if this is the case, the answers given to some of the questions, while correct, may not matter.

What is the ‘speech and debate clause’, and does it protect members of Congress from prosecution for January 6?

I hope this question isn't too general, but I have been thinking about it in broad terms. The past few years have demonstrated that there are a lot of loopholes in our Constitution and system of government. Short of calling a constitutional convention, which I believe could result in the end of the Constitution as we know it, do you think there is a way to plug these loopholes and finally move our society ahead in a true democratic and egalitarian fashion? In other words, are we doomed to continue this seesawing between left and right forever or are we finally going to have a workable country?

These are comforting thoughts. Thank you. More needs to be said about them, and about other ways to combat Trump and his minions.

Thank you for the cogent answer to my question. I wonder if one of the capable people you mentioned will step up to lead the charge. Yes, our bench is deep.

And we’re going to need some heavy hitters in the coming months and years.
