Tariffs are the latest manifestation of Trump and his oligarchy of multi-billionaires that have seized America -- a strange brew of tax avoidance, ignorance, and xenophobia and racism.
As a Canadian, I would advise to look where the tariff money Trump takes in is redistributed to. Trump has a gangster mentality and this stuff is not that complicated…
Amazing article, right up until the last sentence. "And if they now break the economy, it will be the billionaires who get the blame."
No. No they won't. The right will blame trans athletes or DEI or a Marvel movie with a female lead. They'll literally blame everyone except the orange shit goblin who did all of this. Mike Johnson said in January that Congress needs to unwind all the damage that was done the last two years, as if he wasn't in charge of Congress the last two years! And people ate that up.
At 50 years old, I've seen this happen too many times now. Republicans wreck the economy, millionaires and billionaires buy up the pieces at pennies on the dollars, they blame Democrats, Democrats come revive the mess, then get voted out for culture war nonsense. Rip and repeat. It's not a coincidence, it's a plan.
Agreed. But he's not "just a jerk. He's a mobster involved in the Russian Mafia. Hence why the fascination with Putin.
His father ran a front business for the Genovese family to conceal their illegal business. When Trump Sr. died, Donald inherited his father's business. Read: House of Trump, House of Putin. There are other good books too but that one is highly acclaimed
In addition to tariffs, import quotas/restrictions were part of protectionist and punitive international trade practices. As if the tariff wars won’t do enough damage, the American economy will also be harmed when other countries import less from the U.S. This won’t happen as a result of new import restriction policies. It will happen because consumers in countries that the U.S. is antagonizing will refuse to buy Amercan-made products (Exhibit A: Canada).
Sen. Ron Wyden announced that he will be hosting an “open-to-all town hall” on Tuesday, instead of attending Trump’s rant in front of a joint session of Congress. Wyden said: “If you’re looking for something to do … besides watching Trump lie for two hours, all are welcome to tune in.”
The Republicans in Congress and elsewhere have swum* so far up the 🍊💩🤡’s bum that they cannot see the light of day, except occasionally out through his rancid anus-mouth, but at some point they will have to worry about being primaried (or voted out) from the left. But I feel like it’s going to take the MAGA grievance cretins to become angry enough to protest from high prices and starvation, get shot by the National Guard, and rise up into an army of Luigi’s. After all, they have most of the guns.
Meantime, I am thinking of investing or starting a company making low-tech easy-to-use travel guillotines in volume. You know, like those trailer-towable log-splitters? Who’s in?
* I grammar checked it: “have swum” is the past participle of "swim" and is used with "have" or "had".☺️
Everything bad that's happening — and worse yet to come — makes sense if we accept that Trump and his cronies are hell-bent on crippling America. We can argue about motives, be they rampant greed to enrich themselves further or a desire to remake the country in the image of evil Russia. Or both.
Tristan, Trump promised if he had a second term he would tank the stock market and ruin our economy. He's off to a damn good start on both. I would advise Canada and Mexico that with Trump's imposed 25% tariffs on their goods, the should double down and put 50% tariffs on American goods. As my Granddad used to say, " Make 'em bleed or bawl! " The " 'em ", of course, being Trump. American working class and middle class families will break under high tax cuts for billionaires and raising our taxes instead. Billionaire companies, such as Amazon, Tesla, SpaceX, Meta, etc will suffer on their balance sheets and income statements. Their incomes will drop when families have little or no discretionary spending. Those Amazon prime fees will dry up. Nope, we can't afford that. Then, as incomes decline stock prices will drop, making these billionaires wince at how much valuation they lose on their balance sheets. They're too greedy to see it, but they, too, will pay the price for Trump's tariffs.
BTW, China has been avoiding tariffs for years by building all kinds of manufacturing and warehouses in Cambodia, thus, avoiding the American tariffs and boosting the economy in Cambodia.
Everything you listed in this post is absolute truth. Tariffs on imports are taxes on the people of the country who imposes them. Trump is doing more harm to his own people, yet thinks he is causing other countries to pay it. The only way it will hurt other countries is that Trump will make the tariffs so high, us Americans who only make so much money will not be able to buy so many of the products they import from those countries, which will affect how much the other countries make in profits due to them not being able to sell as many products in the United States. So, the other countries will suffer, but tariffs are a tax WE pay on the imports coming in to this country. So we pay the tariffs.
I love a good defenestration reference. It’s unfortunate that the reference is that of the demise of our economy.

Impeach and remove Drumpf. He’s the biggest drain on our economy. Plus, he’s a jerk.

The Lincoln project should start making ads that teach history, and the bad outcomes that these same policies had before.

Does anyone really think that trump doesn’t really understand that tariffs won’t affect Americans in the wallet??if you do then you are wrong
Reporting seems to indicate that, he would be lucky to smell like tariffs.
I think the shit has hit the fan. 🇺🇸🤣🤢😱🤮

Tariffs never work bad business only necessary during war
