How can he take an oath of office when he broke it the last time?

Kathie Hasson Moore's avatar

The problem is, regardless if the cases weren’t dismissed on merit, the American public doesn’t care. Americans don’t for the most part get that into those kinds of sticky details. All they want to know is that they were dismissed. That says it all for the American public.

How they were and how the hell a convicted insurrectionist is able to be president again is far beyond me!

Where in The Constitution does it state that sitting presidents cannot be criminally prosecuted?

The DOJ policy is bogus. Policies can be changed. Think of company policies re smoking in the office or attire. Those things are rewritten all the time.

Correct 👍 But of course “his” DOJ isn’t going to change it.

There's no way to express how much I loathe this POS and just how vile he is.

He's a psychopath, plain and simple.

Thank you. I needed that therapy. #RantOver hahahhahaa

The entire legal situation surrounding Trump is a "hair on fire" nightmare beyond one's imagination. You couldn't make this stuff up if it were not so true. Trump is a living Houdini when it comes to beating the legal system, and at some juncture he is going to have to "pay the piper"! Hopefully it won't be too far in the distant future when "the chickens finally come home to roost" and the long arc of justice will come down on this incredibly horrible individual who is tearing our country apart!

Will all of the January 6 civil cases run as expected too?

The billionaires will probably just keep bailing him out and then he is blackmail bait isn’t he?

Is he still a convicted felon….. even though he manages to get the cases dismissed. Will his legacy say convict felon Donald J Trump??

D Witham's avatar

Wasn’t he supposed to have paid up this fall? What is the hold up?

They are on appeal. I think interest on the amount owed continues to accrue while the appeals work their way through the courts.

The precedents being set by the DOJ “opinions” resulting in dismissals will haunt American jurisprudence forever. “For the good of the country” arguments will add fuel to the fire if they also result in dismissals. Are these actions foreshadowing a potential failure of the People’s confidence in America’s judicial system? How long can America as we know it today survive without a People supported legal system?

P. J. Schuster's avatar

The People have already lost all confidence in the Supreme Court, it’s at it’s lowest point ever. Not much confidence in any of the lower courts either. A huge portion of our federal courts, state courts, state Solicitors General, Attorneys General, & so on have been taken over by hard right religious extremists, put in place by the money & cunning power of Leonard Leo. It’s really terrible

EuphmanKB's avatar

True, but, it’s not yet to the level of systemic failure. A lack of confidence is a sign of potential failure and we’re not there. Yet.

What about Section 3 of the 14th Amendment? Don’t both houses of Congress have to remove the prohibition from serving in office by a 2/3 vote? He has been found to have incited insurrection by courts in Colorado.

P. J. Schuster's avatar

Surely you were paying attention last year, this was heard by the Supreme Court & they totally twisted themselves into pretzels to make that 14A Sec3 say just about the opposite of that. scotus decided that the House & Senate would have to vote on it to keep him off the ballot. Those “Originalists” & “Textualists” are only those things when being so gives them the outcome they want. Grrr 🤬

Why doesn’t NY court just garnish his wages or slap a lien on all his buildings? If any normal American lost a civil case that there was a financial punishment would have to pay up or go to jail. Why in hell does he get to do this legal sound and dance?

Rain Erickson's avatar

He paid the bond, it is now at the appeal court. The bond goes to NY immediately if the appeal is lost by trump.

Thank you for this information. You’re greatly appreciated.

I believe Eric Swallwell has a civil case going against Trump also.

Great work on this civil case piece. Clinton vs. Jones . 9-0 SCOTUS! Wow.
