Garland failed us all! Trump should have been prosecuted starting on Jan 7th 2021 for his crimes against the nation.

Biden should have picked Sally Yates. The democrats playing fair and balanced is what has brought us here today.

That, and the constant propaganda machine of the Reich-wing, lack of education, critical thinking and media literacy skills, hate, sexism, racism, and just plain ignorance.

They were primed to reject anything that came out and believe all the lies. Pounded into conformity. Tristen and others are documenting the true history of what has been happening.

History will not look kindly upon the MAGA cult and Trump regimes.

Let’s hope not! Remember who writes history and who tries to suppress it.

Too much has been written about Trump already to suppress. History will not forget the chaos and divisiveness he perpetuated.

Yes, we need Adam Schiff and Chuck Schumer to write another stern letter. Maybe that’ll do it. They are really are unworthy in so many ways of leading the Democratic Party when they have no guts and no balls. Worried about what Republicans will think of them are you serious?

Every body wants to preserve their 'legacy', from Obama, (Russia interference), to President Biden, not persuing all the anomalies in this election, etc. To Prosecutors, judges, Garland etc. Damn the Supreme Court doesn't give a flying fig about THEIR legacies! WTH should the Dems? It just makes us look like the patsy's we are! I've been a Yellow dog Dem since the 70's but rest assured, if We don't start acting, whatever, I can see Why people are leaving the party!

If there were 67 bomb threats called in to red voting districts and our candidate openly bragged about having the votes to win. She also bragged with her D House leader that they had a secret to winning the election and they succeeded you can bet the universe that there would be riots by the right and calls for the rigged election to be investigated. But here we are just like we were after J6 moving along like nothing has happened.

Chris, it strangely does seem like we’re just moving on, like nothing terrible has happened. No protests, no Op Ed’s. Orderly transition. Marching quietly toward the smoking factory, like we’re just going to our day job🤮

This is making me much angrier than even the MAGA imbeciles who put Donald Trump into power again. Something is deeply wrong with these election results. Why is it not being investigated? Merrick Garland is one of the most disastrous attorney generals we have ever had the misfortune to endure. Every day that this continues, another tear is made in our democracy.

Garland failed the country big time. I can’t think of a weaker, more timid individual. 😎

We all know that the Republican party thrives on projection. Everything they accuse Democrats of, they are doing. They literally have devolved into a demonic cult.

Thanks, I had to load the threads app because I don’t use it, but I read it. Something smelled wrong to me as the votes were coming in. I’ve been called an imbecile and a conspiracy theorist by other Democrats for suggesting that the election was hacked. I’m not a coder, but I have worked for tech companies for 35 years. I’m recently retired. The election was stolen from us. Trump told us, as you said in your other comment. He is pathological and unable to keep secrets. If Biden and the justice department do nothing about this, then I will blame them for handing our democracy to a madman. How could they have missed this?

Don’t forget their candidate said that he had enough votes to win BEFORE the election. And he acted like he could have cared less about the election for at least two weeks prior.

Doesn't it seem weird that for several election cycles now the "Peaceful Transfer of Power" (rarely mentioned before 2020) became THE overarching reason for conceding an election very quickly or we'd lose our whole system of government? But only when Democrats were the ones conceding. This happened with Gore, Kerry and now Harris. But when Republicans "win" who even mentions it?

(Until Trump, but mainly because of the Insurrection.)

Let’s get to the core. The reason we are even in this predicament is because of the cowardice of the Republican party. If Mitch McConnell had persuaded the Rs impeach after 1/6, Trump would have been disqualified from holding office. Instead of impeaching, McConnell gave Rs a way out saying to leave it in the hands of law enforcement.

I’m not giving DOJ a pass by any means. Just saying the root of why we are even here rests at the feet of feckless Republicans.

I agree Julie… There's guilt enough to go around. The problem starts with Trump himself… His arrogance his bullying his sense of entitlement and grandiosity, his criminality his thuggish Roy Cohn behavior, his willingness to lie maliciously and purposely even after he knew he'd lost the goddamn election… He's the problem. But after that we have the Republican party that self-centeredly, and with no morals whatsoever, grabbed onto his coattails of power because it benefited them personally. They have no conscience, no capacity to care about what happens to a country that is bullied. And Mitch McConnel caved cowardly by not ensuring that Trump got convicted after the House correctly impeached him two effing times!

I should have read your comment before I pressed post on mine because you got right to the pt!

It wasn't cowardness by McConnell, it was on purpose that he waited until after Drumpf fled the WH to bring the impeachment trial. N. Pelosi ran the articles of impeachment to McConnell but he chose to wait. Hence McConnell saying Drumpf was already out of office so it didn't matter. EXCEPT it Did matter because it would have barred Drumpf from ever being able to run for office again, that is if he was convicted. But yes the fecklessness of McConnell was voting against conviction lying that because Drumpf was out of office was mute at that pt

On Garland’s grave will be written “He Killed Democracy”. And what should also be written - this time in this history books - is how this result (and Bragg’s) mirrors the fact that Trump was never prosecuted in the years before he started running for POTUS. He was a known criminal who should have faced charges on any number of mafia-related activities. Why didn’t he? This systemic corruption is the subject of two books by Sarah Kendzior: “Hiding In Plain Sight” and “They Knew”. She’s also on Substack. And for a quick peak “behind the curtain” at this corruption, I invite you to watch this brief video clip in which Bill Maher asks the former head of the Southern District of NY for the DOJ - Preet Bahara - why Trump was never prosecuted. Preet’s two word “My bad” answer is an insult to our intelligence by a man who should be asked this question again every time he appears on TV! Preet is corrupt. He should have prosecuted Trump! Here’s the video clip…

Steve, thank you for this post. It's disgusting to watch them all laughing hysterically after Preet says, "My bad." 😝 There's nothing funny about that, then or now. It's tragic and terrifying. The Democratic world is under severe attack from the sociopaths and for the last eight years Americans have given in to Trump's bullying. It's also making me sick that Joe Biden is meeting with Trump at the White House and proclaiming as if he were the "good boy," that we're going to have a peaceful transition of power. I'm not saying we shouldn't, but proclaiming it without any explanation for the hideousness of what happened on January 6, 2021 is what makes me sick. We already know Joe Biden is a good boy that's not the goddamn point when does America stand up and say "We're good but you Donald Trump are the one who is bad, and we're not going to pretend otherwise!"

That’s your choice, of course. But I’ll just add that “suspecting her intentions” is not the same as knowing her back story and real motivations. I don’t have the time to tell you who she is in reality, but I will say that I think she has a lot of knowledge gained from her research to offer.

I have nothing but contempt for Merrick Garland — the living, breathing human embodiment of the proverbial deer caught in the headlights. And Biden was too hands off; he could have quietly signaled his wishes that DOJ move immediately against Trump, but he failed to do so, a strategy that was, and forever will be, totally mystifying.

Biden’s performance at the Hill hearing will be etched forever in memory. He showed her absolutely no respect—he yelled, shouted at her; he was white patriarchy in full outrage mode: how dare she defile these hallowed (rubber-stamp) proceedings with her filthy assault on the integrity of this outstanding nominee? Thanks for bringing this up!

How is that any different from Biden’s handling of Anita Hill’s nomination to the Supes which gave us Clarence Thomas? Not that I’m dissing his presidency. And I’m hardly an astute or even well informed politics junky. It’s only that it seems a kind of pattern to his slips at critical junctures which have far reaching and devastating effects on the running and ultimately control of our country.

I heard that Garland had to fight GOP DOJ prosecutors who didn't want to even get a judge to issue a warrant for Mar a Lago. But then Garland should have moved post haste to investigate all crimes committed by Drumpf.

Expand full comment

He would have appealed every step of the way and he’d still not have what he deserved and that’s jail. However, the facts would have gotten out to the public at large, and now, unless Biden or Garland on their way out do something radical like unsealing the J6 and documents files, we will never know all the evidence they have collected that they felt warranted a trial: the grand jury saw more than we ever will!

Expand full comment

Yeah. Maybe judge Chutkin could unseal the documents if she accepts Jack Smith's original contention that voters should know the facts arrayed against Trump for Jan 6. Lordy Lordy Jack Smith could pull a Comey without any guidance from the courts or from DOJ. Maybe Garland or Judge Chutkin or President Biden could make that kind of release with more credibility.

JANUARY 20, 1969

Overhead, the low Atlantic sky was the color of wet concrete, threatening rain.

President Nixon got into his bulletproof limousine and kicked off the inaugural parade, which would take him within a literal stone’s throw…

…of the thousands of protesters who lined the winter streets.

DO NOT sit around on your couches and blame anyone…

…EXCEPT DONALD TRUMP and his vast right-wing conspiracy.

We organized this protest after Nixon won in 1968. We traveled to Washington DC.

We protested on January 20, 1969.

We Americans better do it again on January 20, 2025…

…or we won’t have a country anymore.

I know that at this rate waiting 4 years would be too late (do we really think he will physically or mentally survive? With how badly he seems to be progressing before our very eyes?) but is there ANY possibility of blocking him pardoning himself in any of these matters? I’ve said this a thousand times, but how on earth could anyone have considered a president committing these crimes, but even if they did, was anyone thinking far enough in advance to prevent a criminal from pardoning HIMSELF?

The main thing that failed us is our educational system. The American public has not a clue how government works and no interest in learning much of anything. We can finger point all we want…understanding that when we do we have three pointing back at us.
